The client
Opportunity International Savings and Loans Ltd is a Ghanaian financial institution providing savings, loans and money-transfer services to individuals, small businesses and underserved communities. Its mission of financial inclusion means many of its customers reach it on a mobile phone.
The problem
Many of the institution's customers are first-time customers, and many use low-cost smartphones. Product information that is hard to follow, or a website that is awkward on a small screen, can put them off. The institution needed a website that explained its products clearly, built trust with first-time customers, worked well on low-cost smartphones, gave customers a clear route to apply and to its online services, and could be found by people searching for financial services in Ghana.
Our approach
We structured the website around what customers want to do (save, borrow and send money) and designed a clean, mobile-first interface with plain-language product pages. We built in search-engine foundations and applied security practices appropriate to a financial brand.
How our approach solved it
Problem 1
Customers found the range of savings, loan and money-transfer products hard to understand.
How we solved it
A website organised around saving, borrowing and sending money, with plain-language pages for each product.
Problem 2
First-time customers needed reasons to trust the institution.
How we solved it
A financial education section explaining savings, investment and responsible borrowing, and security practices appropriate to a financial brand.
Problem 3
Many customers use low-cost smartphones.
How we solved it
A mobile-first design: layouts designed for smartphones first, then adapted for tablets and desktops.
Problem 4
Interested customers needed a clear next step.
How we solved it
Calls to action on the product pages to apply or get in touch, and routes from the website to the institution's online banking and loan-application services.
Problem 5
People searching for financial services in Ghana needed to find the institution.
How we solved it
Technical SEO, page titles and structured content for search engines.
What we delivered
- Product journeys. Clear pages for savings, loans and remittance products, with calls to action to apply or get in touch.
- Mobile-first design. Layouts designed first for smartphones, then adapted for tablets and desktops.
- Access to online services. Routes from the website to the institution's online banking and loan-application services.
- Financial education. A section explaining savings, investment and responsible borrowing.
- Search visibility. Technical SEO, page titles and structured content for search engines.
The result
The website is live as the institution's main online channel for product information, applications and customer notices. We have not published performance figures for this project.
