WhatsApp Business Readiness Checker

The WhatsApp Business readiness checker asks about your business profile, how you answer customers, how people opt in, your team, the automation you want and your message volume. It gives a readiness score, a prioritised list of gaps, and a recommendation between the WhatsApp Business app and the WhatsApp Business Platform (API), with the reasons from your answers. It runs in your browser.

WhatsApp Business Readiness

Planning a chatbot for WhatsApp? The AI chatbot requirements generator turns your answers into a project brief.

Everything runs in your browser. Your answers are not sent to our server unless you choose to send the report with an enquiry.

How to use the WhatsApp Business Readiness

  1. 1 Answer the questions about your profile, customer support and opt-in.
  2. 2 Say how many people reply, what you want to automate and how many chats you get.
  3. 3 Press Check my readiness to see your score, gaps and recommendation.
  4. 4 Fix the high-priority gaps first, then download or print the report and share it with your team.

What it does

  • Weighted readiness score out of 100, with consent and support weighted most
  • Gaps in priority order, each with what to do and why
  • App or Business Platform recommendation, with every reason taken from your answers
  • Plain explanation of Meta's opt-in rules and per-message Platform pricing, linked to the official pages
  • Download as Markdown, print or save as PDF, or send the report to us

Useful for small businesses selling on WhatsApp, teams sharing one customer number and managers planning WhatsApp automation.

Limitations

  • It is guidance, not an official Meta assessment or certification, and it cannot guarantee that an account, number or message template will be approved.
  • It does not quote message prices: Meta's rates depend on the message category and the recipient's country, and change over time.
  • WhatsApp features and limits change; we checked Meta's pages on 31 October 2026.
  • It is not legal advice about Ghana's Data Protection Act or other laws.

How the score works

The checker scores twelve practical checks out of 100. Each answer counts fully (“yes”), half (“partly”) or not at all. Consent and customer support carry the most weight, because they protect your customers and your number:

  • Consent (heaviest): how people opt in, whether you record it, and whether opting out is easy and respected.
  • Support: who answers, how quickly, and whether you have standard answers and a rule for passing chats on.
  • Profile: a complete business profile, opening hours, a catalogue and a dedicated business number.

Checks that do not apply to you are left out, not counted against you. A catalogue does not matter to every business, and a sole trader does not need a handover rule. Under 50 means “not ready yet”, 50 to 79 “partly prepared” and 80 or more “well prepared”.

App or Platform: how the recommendation works

The WhatsApp Business app is built for small business owners. It has a business profile, catalogue, greeting and away messages, quick replies and labels. One phone can link up to four more devices, so a small team can share the work.

The WhatsApp Business Platform is for automated flows, approved message templates and connections to your own systems. Your answers count towards it when:

  • more than five people need to reply from one number (more than ten points strongly to it);
  • you want a chatbot, ordering in the chat, payment confirmations or automatic notifications;
  • chats must connect to a CRM, online shop or booking system;
  • you plan marketing campaigns to large lists, or get hundreds of chats a day.

If you only need some of that later, the report says to start with the app and plan for the Platform. Every reason in your report quotes the answer it came from, so you can check it.

Opt-in: what Meta asks for

Meta’s opt-in rules say the person must have given you their number and agreed to hear from your business. The opt-in must clearly name your business and say what the person is agreeing to, and you must follow the law that applies to you. A website form, a checkbox at checkout, an SMS keyword or a paper form can all work. Keep a record of each opt-in, and stop messaging anyone who asks: the Business Messaging Policy says you must respect those requests. If you are updating your privacy notice, our privacy policy generator gives you a draft to review.

How Platform pricing works

Meta charges per message delivered. The rate depends on the message category (marketing, utility, authentication or service) and the recipient’s country code. To estimate your costs, list the messages you expect each month by category and check them against Meta’s pricing page. Meta changes its rates and free allowances from time to time, so we do not copy them here.

Next steps

Fix the high-priority gaps first, then set up the app’s built-in tools or plan your Platform project. If a chatbot is part of the plan, the AI chatbot requirements generator turns it into a project brief. A QR code on your shop counter or flyers is a simple way to start chats. When you are ready, our WhatsApp automation service can set it up with you.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the WhatsApp Business app and the WhatsApp Business Platform?

The app is built for small business owners: a business profile, catalogue, greeting and away messages, quick replies and labels on a phone, with up to four more linked devices. The Platform is Meta's set of APIs for businesses that need approved message templates, automated flows and integration with systems such as a CRM. You use it through a Meta partner or your own developers.

How much does the WhatsApp Business Platform cost?

Meta charges per message delivered. The rate depends on the message category (marketing, utility, authentication or service) and the country code of the recipient's number, and volume tiers can lower utility and authentication rates. Free allowances apply in some cases. Meta publishes the current rates on its pricing page; if you use a partner, ask what it charges in addition.

Do customers have to opt in before I message them on WhatsApp?

Yes. Meta says you may only message people who have given you their number and agreed to receive messages from your business. The opt-in must name your business and make clear what the person is agreeing to, and you must follow the law that applies to you. You can collect it on a website, by SMS, in person or on a paper form, and you must respect requests to stop.

How many people can use one WhatsApp Business app account?

WhatsApp lets you link a phone as one of up to four additional devices, so staff can answer from their own phones. Meta's business app pages list linking up to 10 devices and agents with Meta Verified. Larger teams usually move to a shared inbox on the Business Platform.

Can I message a customer on the Business Platform at any time?

You can reply freely within the 24-hour customer service window that opens when a customer messages you. Outside that window, Meta only allows message templates that it has approved.

Does a high score mean Meta will approve my account or templates?

No. The score shows how well prepared you are from your own answers. Meta reviews accounts and templates under its own policies, and no tool can promise the outcome.
