PDF Tools: Merge, Split, Extract and Rotate
These free PDF tools merge several PDFs into one, split a PDF by page ranges or into single pages, extract the pages you need, put pages in a new order and rotate them. You can also lightly re-save a file and check its page count, page sizes and metadata. Choose your files and pick a task: everything happens in your browser, so your documents are never uploaded.

Your files
Merging follows this order. Drag a file, or use its Up and Down buttons, to change it.
The files are combined into one PDF in the order listed above. Bookmarks, links between files and form fields may not carry over.
Add at least two PDFs to merge them.
Each range becomes its own PDF. Write 8- for page 8 to the end.
Several parts download together as one ZIP file.
Tick the pages you want to extract, or keep them all. Change the order by dragging a page or with its arrow buttons, and rotate pages in 90° steps.
This re-saves the PDF with its objects packed into compressed object streams. It may make the file slightly smaller. It does not recompress or downscale images, so scanned and photo-heavy PDFs barely change. If the new copy is not smaller, you keep your original.
Your PDFs are opened and processed in your browser with pdf-lib and PDF.js; no file, page or result is uploaded to our server or anyone else's.
How to use the PDF Tools
- 1 Choose or drop one or more PDF files (up to 100 MB in total).
- 2 Pick a task: merge, split, extract or reorder pages, re-save, or document information.
- 3 For merging, put the files in order; for pages, tick, drag, move or rotate them.
- 4 Download the result: one PDF, or a ZIP file when a split makes several PDFs.
What it does
- Merge PDFs in the order you choose, by dragging or with Up and Down buttons
- Split by page ranges such as 1-3, 5, 8-10, or into one PDF per page (downloaded as a ZIP)
- Extract selected pages into a new PDF, reorder pages and rotate them in 90° steps
- Page previews drawn in your browser, with keyboard controls for every action
- Light re-save that shows the size before and after, and keeps your original if it is not smaller
- Document information: page count, page sizes, PDF version, title, author and whether the file is encrypted
Useful for office and admin staff, students sending applications and assignments, businesses preparing tenders and reports and anyone who needs a quick PDF fix without installing software.
Limitations
- This is not a strong compressor: re-saving does not recompress or downscale images, so scanned or photo-heavy PDFs barely shrink.
- Password-protected or encrypted PDFs must be unlocked first. The tool does not remove or bypass passwords.
- New PDFs are built from the pages, so bookmarks are not carried over, form fields may stop working and digital signatures will no longer be valid.
- It does not convert PDFs to Word, edit text or recognise text in scans (OCR).
- Very large files depend on your device's memory; the limits are 100 MB in total and 1,000 pages per job.
What each task does
- Merge combines the files in the order shown in your file list. Drag a file to a new place, or use its Up and Down buttons, before you merge.
- Split turns one PDF into several. Type page ranges to choose how pages are grouped, or make one PDF per page. When there is more than one part, the parts download together as a ZIP file.
- Extract, reorder or rotate pages shows a preview of every page. Tick pages and choose Extract selected pages to save just those, in the order shown. Move pages earlier or later, rotate them left or right, then choose Download all pages in this order to save the whole document with your changes.
- Re-save writes the file again with its internal objects packed into compressed object streams, and shows the size before and after.
- Document information lists the page count, each page size (for example A4 portrait, 210 × 297 mm), the PDF version, the title, author and other metadata, and whether the file is encrypted.
Writing page ranges
Separate ranges with commas. Page numbers start at 1, as in your PDF reader.
| You type | Split makes | Extract selects |
|---|---|---|
1-3, 5 |
two PDFs: pages 1–3, and page 5 | pages 1, 2, 3 and 5 |
4 |
one PDF with page 4 | page 4 |
8- |
one PDF from page 8 to the end | page 8 to the last page |
1-2, 3-4, 5-6 |
three PDFs of two pages each | pages 1 to 6 |
If a range is outside the document or runs backwards (such as 5-3), the tool explains what to change instead of guessing.
Why the compression is light
A PDF’s size usually comes from the images and fonts inside it. This tool can tidy how the file is stored, but it does not recompress images, so the saving is often small and sometimes nothing at all. When the re-saved copy is not smaller, the tool says so and you keep your original. To make a large PDF much smaller, export it again from the program that created it with a lower image quality, or shrink photos with the image compressor before you put them in a document.
Password-protected and damaged files
An encrypted PDF shows as Encrypted: unlock it first. You can still see its page count and page sizes, but its title and author are encrypted with the rest of the file. If you are entitled to edit it, open it with its password in your PDF reader and save or print an unprotected copy.
Files that do not start with the PDF signature (%PDF-) are refused, even if they are named .pdf. A file that is damaged or cut short gets a clear message: opening it in a PDF reader and saving a fresh copy often fixes it.
Good habits with PDFs
- Keep the original. Every task here creates a new file and leaves yours unchanged.
- Don’t edit or re-save a digitally signed PDF that you need to stay valid: any change to a signed file means the signature no longer matches it.
- Check the result before you send it, especially page order and rotation.

Frequently asked questions
Are my PDF files uploaded anywhere?
No. The tool loads two open-source libraries, pdf-lib and Mozilla's PDF.js, into the page and works on your files in your browser's memory. Nothing is sent to our server, and closing the tab discards the files.
How do I split a PDF into separate pages?
Choose Split, select One PDF per page and choose Split and download. You get a ZIP file with one PDF for each page. To keep some pages together, choose One PDF per page range and type ranges such as 1-3, 4-6.
Can this tool compress a PDF?
Only lightly. Re-save packs the file's internal objects into compressed object streams, which may save a little space. It does not recompress images, so it cannot make a scanned document much smaller. If the copy is not smaller, the tool tells you to keep the original.
Why can't I merge a password-protected PDF?
Encrypted PDFs have to be unlocked before their pages can be copied. If you know the password and are allowed to, open the file in your PDF reader and save or print an unprotected copy, then use that copy. The tool does not try to remove passwords.
Is there a size or page limit?
You can open up to 100 MB of PDFs at once, and a single job can have up to 1,000 pages. Large files take longer and use more memory on older phones.
Will bookmarks and form fields survive a merge?
The content of each page is copied as it is, but bookmarks are not carried over and fillable form fields may stop working. Fill in and flatten forms before merging if you need their contents to stay.
