Cloud Hosting Cost Estimator

The cloud hosting cost estimator helps you plan what it costs to keep a website or application online. Choose a hosting profile, then the compute size, storage, bandwidth, database, backups and support you need. It totals the priced items per month and per year from the ranges we publish and lists the rest as quoted separately. The guide below explains how to size each one.

Hosting Cost Estimator

1. Which kind of hosting are you considering?
2. Compute size (processor and memory)

Depends on how many people use the site at the same time and how much work each request does. The guide below explains how to size it.

3. Storage

Your files, uploads and database together. Backups need extra space of their own.

4. Bandwidth (data transferred each month)

Roughly your average page size multiplied by your page views each month, plus downloads and media.

5. Database, backups and performance

Tick what your website or application needs.

6. Support and set-up

Who looks after the hosting, and moving to it.

7. Hosting and domain

The hosting line that matches the profile you chose is used in the estimate.

An indicative range, not a quotation.

Your selections are sent to our server only to calculate the estimate; they are not stored unless you send them with an enquiry.

How to use the Hosting Cost Estimator

  1. 1 Choose the kind of hosting you are considering, or "Not sure yet".
  2. 2 Pick a compute size, storage and bandwidth, using the guide below if you are unsure.
  3. 3 Tick the database, backups, CDN, monitoring and support you need.
  4. 4 Press Calculate to see monthly and yearly totals, then print the estimate or ask us to size your hosting.

What it does

  • Monthly and annual totals of the priced items
  • Shared, VPS, managed cloud and dedicated server profiles
  • Compute, storage, bandwidth, database, backup, CDN and monitoring options
  • Optional USD figures when an exchange rate is set
  • Print or save as PDF, and send your choices with a request for advice

Useful for business owners budgeting for hosting, teams moving a website or application to the cloud and managers comparing hosting options.

Limitations

  • Only the hosting, domain and maintenance ranges we publish are priced; items that depend on your workload are quoted separately rather than guessed.
  • It does not use cloud providers' price lists, which change often and depend on region, usage and exchange rates.
  • Usage-based charges, such as data transfer and storage growth, can vary from month to month.

Choose a hosting profile

  • Shared hosting is the lowest-cost option in our published range and suits brochure websites and small stores with steady traffic.
  • A virtual private server (VPS) gives your site or application its own allocation of processor, memory and storage, so other customers’ websites affect it less.
  • A managed cloud or container platform suits applications whose traffic rises and falls, or that need managed databases and several servers.
  • A dedicated server is for heavy workloads or strict isolation. It is the most specialised option, so we recommend it only when a workload calls for it.

How to size compute

Compute (processor and memory) depends on how many people use the site at the same time and how much work each request does. Estimate the people online at once with:

people online at once ≈ visits in your busiest hour × average visit length in minutes ÷ 60

Worked example: 600 visits in the busiest hour, each lasting about 5 minutes, gives 600 × 5 ÷ 60 = 50 people at once. A brochure website serving 50 people is a small workload; a business application where those 50 people run reports and save records all day needs more. When you are unsure, choose “Not sure” and we will size it from your real traffic.

How to size storage

Add the parts together, then add a year of growth:

storage = files and media + database + (monthly growth × 12)

Worked example: 3 GB of website files and images plus a 2 GB database is 5 GB today. If uploads add about 0.5 GB a month, that is 5 + 0.5 × 12 = 11 GB after a year, so the 10 GB to 100 GB option fits. Backups are extra: each copy you keep needs space, preferably on separate storage.

How to size bandwidth

Bandwidth is the data your server sends to visitors each month:

bandwidth ≈ average page size × page views a month + downloads and media

Worked example: pages averaging 2 MB viewed 20,000 times a month transfer about 40 GB. Add 500 downloads of a 10 MB brochure (5 GB) and you need about 45 GB a month, inside the “under 100 GB” option. Smaller pages cut bandwidth and load faster: compress images with the image compressor and check page weight with the website speed test.

Read your estimate

The estimate shows a monthly total and an annual total of the priced items: yearly items such as hosting and the domain are spread over 12 months, and monthly items such as maintenance are multiplied by 12. Items that depend on your workload are listed as quoted separately, with how often they are usually billed.

Most hosting decisions are easier with real numbers. Press Request a hosting quotation on your estimate and your choices are copied into the form below; tell us what you host now and how busy it is, and we will recommend a set-up with backups and security done properly. Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between shared hosting, a VPS and cloud hosting?

Shared hosting puts many websites on one server. A virtual private server (VPS) gives you your own allocation of processor, memory and storage. A managed cloud platform runs your application on a provider's managed services, which can scale as demand changes. A dedicated server is a physical machine used only by you.

How much does hosting cost in Ghana?

The range we publish is about GHS 600 a year for shared hosting up to GHS 3,000 or more a year for a VPS, plus GHS 100 – 300 a year for a domain. Managed cloud platforms and dedicated servers are priced on your workload.

How do I work out how much bandwidth I need?

Multiply your average page size by your page views each month, then add downloads and media. For example, pages of 2 MB viewed 20,000 times a month transfer about 40 GB.

How much storage do I need?

Add up your website or application files, uploaded media and database, then add a year of growth. Backups need space of their own, ideally away from the main server.

Do I need a CDN?

A content delivery network keeps copies of your files on servers in many locations, so each visitor is served from one near them. It helps most when your visitors are spread across countries or your pages carry many images and downloads.

Why are some items quoted separately?

Compute, storage, bandwidth and managed services depend on your traffic and workload, and cloud prices change with usage and exchange rates. We only show prices we publish and price the rest after reviewing what you need to host.
